Abstract:AIM:To evaluate the effect of methylprednisolone pulse therapy with triamcinolone acetonide and dexamethasone peri-orbital injection on thyroid associated ophthalmo-pathy.METHODS:Thirty-six cases 53 eyes of Graves ophthal-mopathy were treated with methylprednisolone(500mg) every day, three days later peri-orbital injection of triamcinolone acetonide(40mg)and dexamethasone(2.5mg) once one month and three months in one course.Symptoms and signs of the patients were observed before and after one course of treatment.RESULTS:The mean value of exophthalmus of the patients was significantly decreased after the treatment by(3.4±1.2)mm.The thickness of the extraocular muscles was significantly decreased by(1.1±0.3)mm.CONCLUSION:Methylprednisolone pulse therapy with triamcinolone acetonide and dexamethasone peri-orbital injection can improve symptoms and signs of the patients with thyroid associated ophthalmopathy with less side effect and high safety.
