    Abstract:

    AIM:To observe the effect of auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation combined with mitomycin(MMC) in the treatment of pterygium.METHODS: Totally 60 cases (68 eyes) with pterygium received pterygium excision. During the surgery, the entire pterygium was striped with corneal epithelium, bare sclear was exposed to 0.2g/L MMC for 5 minutes, the eyes were given auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation.RESULTS: After 6-24 months of following up, no one in 60 cases of pterygium relapsed and no serious complications were observed .CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that in the pterygium excision surgery, auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation combined with topical MMC application is a safe and effective method for pterygium.
