Clinical observation of treatment outcomes of severe congenital ptosis using frontalis suspension technique in children

    Abstract:

    To investigate the effectiveness of frontalis suspension technique on children with severe congenital ptosis. METHODS:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 17 children (32 eyes) with severe congenital ptosis. Frontalis suspension was performed on these subjects in Tangxia hospital between June 2007 and June 2011. RESULTS:Subjects were followed up for 6 to 48 months after surgery, with an average of 26 months. All subjects had improvement in appearance. The treatment outcome was found to be satisfied in 12 subjects and acceptable in 4 subjects. Undercorrection was found in 1 subject. No failure case was seen. No severe complication was found in any subject. CONCLUSION:Frontalis suspension technique is effective in treatments of severe congenital ptosis in child subjects, with no severe complication.
