AIM: To observe the clinical efficacy of 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)combined with limbal stem cell autograft transplantation for recurrent pterygium.

METHODS: Recurrent pterygium excision and 5-FU combined with limbal stem cell autograft transplantation was performed in 74 cases 74 eyes under microscope.

RESULTS: Postoperative follow-up ranged from 12-36 months, of the 74 cases 74 eyes, 70 cases 70 eyes were cured, 4 cases 4 eyes recurred, the cure rate was 94.6%, recurrent rate was 5.4%.

CONCLUSION: Recurrent pterygium excision and 5-FU combined with limbal stem cell autograft transplantation is an effective method for recurrent pterygium with low recurrent rate.
