A novel approach for 25-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy to evaluate vitreous substitutes in rabbits

The authors provided a practical surgical technique for improving the standard three-port vitrectomy in rabbits in order to establish a proper model for the evaluation of a novel endotamponade substitute. The infusion cannula was firstly placed in the inferior nasal quadrant at 5 o’clock position. The balanced salt solution was continuously fed into the vitreous cavity through the handhold infusion catheter. The vitreous cutter and endoilluminator were then respectively placed in the superior nasal quadrant at 12 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions, using a wide‐angle noncontact viewing system and the Constellation Vision System, and the core vitrectomy was removed. And the surgical procedure via the modified approach does not involve removal of the lens. The modified approach appeared to have few complications, less operation time and better ability to heal the sclera wounds than previous reports. The novel artificial vitreous body could be formed in situ by cross-linking in less than 1min, with good transparency. Fundus photography and SD-OCT showed that the retina breaks were repaired well without retinal detachment. The novel hydrogel might serve as a promising candidate in treating vitreoretinal diseases. The modified surgical approach is worthy of application in establishing animal endotamponade models.

Agreement of intraocular pressure measurement with Corvis ST, non-contact tonometer, and Goldmann applanation tonometer in children with ocular hypertension and related factors

This study accessed the agreement of intraocular pressure (IOP) values obtained from biomechanically corrected tonometer [Corvis ST (CST)], non-contact tonometer (NCT), and Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) in children with NCT measured-IOP (NCT-IOP) values of 22 mm Hg or more, and related factors. The accuracy of NCT in the diagnosis of pediatric ocular hypertension (OHT) is low. The agreement of CST-IOP and GAT-IOP was significantly higher in children with and without OHT than in those with NCT-IOP and GAT-IOP. Therefore, CST can be used as a good alternative for IOP measurement in children. The impacts of central corneal thickness (CCT) and axial length (AL) on NCT measurement need to be fully considered when managing childhood IOP.

Bibliometric analysis of research relating to refractive cataract surgery over a 20-year period: from 2003 to 2022

This study aims at presenting a comprehensive analysis of the current status of refractive cataract surgery research in the past 20y (2003 to 2022) based on Web of Science data. According to the bibliometric analysis, the authors and institutions contribution, publication countries, journals, the sum of citations, and H-index, and the keywords of the latest hotspot were shown. Corneal astigmatism, cataract surgery method, postoperative visual-quality and postoperative complications relate researches has become the emerging hotspots, which can give a direction in the future researches.
