Abstract:·Glaucoma is one kind of blinding ophthalmopathy caused by increased intraocular pressure(IOP),and its pathologic basis is the progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs)and its axons. In the past,a great number of studies have focused on reducing IOP.Now optic nerve protection is accepted generally as a new strategy for treating glaucoma by preventing the death of RGCs.This review summarizes the findings of experimental research on neuroprotection for glaucoma.·
