AIM:To explore the means of therapy for obstruction of lacrimal ducts through comparison of antegrade lacrimal intubation and simple lacrimal irrigation.METHODS: Totally 140 eyes (140 patients) with obstruction of lacrimal ducts were divided into observation group and control group randomly. 75 eyes in observation group received antegrade lacrimal intubation and those in control group received simple lacrimal irrigation. They were followed up for 6 months to 1 years postoperatively.RESULTS: Sixty-five eyes were cured in observation group, the cure rate was 86.7%, and one eye recurred; 45 eyes were cured in control group, the cure rate was 69.2%, and 2 eyes recurred. There was significant effect between two groups about cure rate and recurrence rate.CONCLUSION:Antegrade lacrimal intubation has the advantages of simplicity of operation, easy operating, convenient service, economic practicality and etc. It is easy to apply and operate in basic hospital.
