Abstract:The corneal epithelium, an essential refractive interface, plays an integral role in the corneal healing cascade subsequent to refractive surgical interventions. All conventional methodologies for corneal refractive correction entail a degree of corneal epithelial remodeling; however, the phenomenon of excessive epithelial remodeling precipitates adverse outcomes on the refractive correction efficacy of such surgeries. This review offers a comprehensive exposition on the utility of corneal epithelial remodeling within the ambit of refractive surgical practices and delves into a thorough exploration of variables influencing epithelial remodeling in the perioperative context of corneal refractive procedures. The objective is to substantively augment the safety, efficacy, predictability, and longitudinal stability of corneal refractive surgical outcomes.
